Discovery Passages Events December 16th to 22nd




Monday, December 16th 

  • Artisans Christmas Market continues at the Public Art Gallery, open Monday to Saturday (10am-5pm) until December 24th. Browse through a gorgeous boutique-style market to find that special gift. 
  • Teen Scene: Youth ONLY (Grade 6+). Come hang at the Gathering Place – 300 Robron on Monday nights from 6pm-8pm. Some nights we will cook dinner, listen to music and have some great activities. We are also going on some outings this season: swimming, skating, pool hall, climbing wall (let us know your ideas!) and it’s free! Come check it out.

Tuesday, December 17th   
  • Christmas Open House with Claire Trevena (MLA North Island) at the CR Constituency Office (908 Island Hwy) from 3pm-5pm. 250-287-5100
Wednesday, December 18th   
  • Quay West Restaurant holds their Third Annual Donation Dinner. Everyone is invited from 5pm-7:30pm to come and enjoy a delicious, traditional turkey dinner with all the fixings, regardless of financial circumstances. Any donations will benefit the Campbell River Food Bank.

Friday, December 20th
  • Coastal Black Christmas: Experience the North Pole. Grab a hot coco and enter Santa’s Village or view ice sculptures created by a local artist in our Winter Wonderland - fun for the whole family! General Admission is FREE; $5 to walk through the winter wonderland ($1 from that being donated to local Food Bank). Runs 4pm-8pm, December 20th-23rd 
  • Specialized recreational Christmas baking at the Community Centre catering kitchen, 3-5pm. Make a variety of yummy traditional and not so traditional holiday treats – two/$22. 
  • Job’s Daughters 14th Annual Christmas Carol Telegrams: for a donation, the Job’s Daughters of CR will go to the home or business of your family or friends and sing Christmas Carols. To book, call Sydney or Bonnie at 250-202-4257. (Also available on Sunday, December 22nd). 
  • Celebration of Light: an annual winter solstice musical event at the Maritime Heritage Centre with Neil and Noelle Maffin. Donations are gratefully received. Doors open at 6:30pm and it begins at 7pm sharp. Potluck social followed with appetizers. Call 250-287-1350 for more information. www.cslCampbellRiver.org  
  • Cosmic Rock ‘N Glow Swim at Strathcona Gardens for Ages 11-17, 8pm-9:30pm. Evening of games, challenges and fun! $5 admission includes glow item, snacks and drinks. 
  • Coins for Kids: last chance to drop off your coins at the Mirror office (104-250 Dogwood); all funds will be donated the Knights of Columbus Christmas Hamper Fund.
Saturday, December 21st     
  • The Festival of Trees continues at the Museum – They are Open Daily for the Holidays, 10am-5pm. Winter Solstice Social today with the announcement of the People’s Choice award! Call 250-287-3103 for more info. 
  • Tidemark Cinema Presents: “Elf” with Will Ferrell at 1pm. 
  • Coastal Black Christmas: Experience the North Pole. 
  • Canadian Country Christmas, 7:30pm at the Lions Hall in Willow Point to benefit CR Hospice. With Sean Hogan, Sue Medley, Rodrigo, Doug Folkins and Andreas Eggenberger: buy tickets at Serious Coffee or from the Hospice Soceity ($25/$15). 
  • Christmas Ice-Colouring Contest at Strathcona Gardens: paint your favorite Christmas scene or character on the leisure ice (tempera paints and coloured felts provided); cool prizes for the top 3 drawings in each age category. Regular Admission – candy canes for all!!
Sunday, December 22nd

  • The Immigrant Welcome Centre will be holding a Cooking Class Series at Robron Centre, Tuesdays until December 10th (6pm-8:30pm).  Featuring authentic dishes from around the world, each evening will include 2 or 3 recipes and participants receive a cook book. Wednesday, December 11th   

  • Bikes for Kids. Swicked Cycles is graciously accepting donations of bicycles, which they will then re-furbish and pass along to a deserving kid. In association with the Salvation Army. Deadline for bikes is December 11th. Drop off your donations between 10 am – 5pm at Swicked Cycles, 1791 Spruce St. Campbell River. Call 250-914-2453 for more info.

Thursday, December 12th

  • Tidemark Lounge Series with Roger Seldon and Jilli Martini Band at 7pm. Just $10 at the door. 
  • Ladybug Greenhouse is hosting a Holiday Table Centerpiece workshop at 51 Colorado Drive (also on the 15th). Call 250-923-0707 to pre-register.

 Friday, December 13th

  • Yuletide Celebrations: An Old Fashioned Christmas Tea from 2pm-4pm at the Community Centre (in the Gym!). $5. 
  • Coastal Black Christmas: Experience the North Pole. Grab a hot coco and enter Santa’s Village or view ice sculptures created by a local artist in our Winter Wonderland - fun for the whole family! General Admission is FREE; $5 to walk through the winter wonderland ($1 from that being donated to local Food Bank). Runs 4pm-8pm 13th-15th & 20th-23rd 
  • Family night at the Movies (5:15pm-8pm) – enjoy a relaxing skate on the leisure ice while watching a family movie (the Smurfs 2!); $4/person or $10/family includes 2 slices of pizza and a juice box – movie starts at 6pm. 
  • ‘Stuff you Face’ extreme Teen swim for grades 6 and up at Strathcona Gardens. $6 admission includes snacks, weird eating challenges, Cheeto Head races and other crazy messy fun. Come prepared to get gooey – complementary showers!

  • Tidemark Cinema Presents: It’s a Wonderful Life. Starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed, this Christmas Classic is sure to warm up your afternoon. 1pm. 
  • Christmas Lego Day at the Museum from 1pm-2:30pm. Bring the parents and build some Christmas decorations for the Museum’s Christmas Lego Tree! Lego master Alexander Witcombe will once again be offering a prize for the day. $5, call 250-287-3103 to register. 
  • Coastal Black Christmas: Experience the North Pole. 
  • Santa Swim (Toonie swim) for all ages at Strathcona Gardens, 12:30pm-4pm; winter activities and challenges are planned – great family fun! Santa arrives at 2pm: get your free photo with Santa e-mailed to you! 
  • Super Saturday at the Art Gallery: Wonder Bread Ornaments. Be amazed at the brilliant sculptures you can make using white bread as a sculpture medium. It works like clay! Sculpt vivid coloured ornaments for your tree – drop by 1pm-3pm for this free event; all materials provided, artists of all ages welcome.

 Sunday, December 15th

  • Pier Street Christmas Craft Market at the Maritime Heritage Centre, 10am-3:30pm 
  • Coastal Black Christmas: Experience the North Pole. 
  • A Story Telling Brunch! Beautiful stories from island storytellers with a fabulous brunch, silent auction and a fun raffle – 10:30am at the Heriot Bay Inn on Quadra Island. $29.95pp – call 250-285-3322 for more info.

  • Nearly Neil at the Tidemark Theatre featuring Bobby Bruce and the skillful Solitary Band – drawing from various arrangements of Diamond’s hit songs to highlight his prime from the mid 60s to the Jazz Singer album of 1980. 
  • “Behold! The Joy to the World” at 451 – 7th Ave. Free Admission!

  • The Immigrant Welcome Centre will once again present the annual ‘Winter Traditions from Around the World’ in partnership with the Museum at Campbell River. The Museum will host any organization or individual wishing to display their cultural Winter/Holiday Traditions: food, dress, decorations, games – book a table and let’s celebrate together! 1pm-4pm with live music at 1:30pm and Father Christmas at 2pm! The Museum’s Festival of Trees will also add atmosphere for the event; call 250-287-3103 to book your table! 
  • Campbell River Singers Celtic inspired Christmas Concert at the Tidemark. From the lilting melodies of “A Welsh Noel” to the haunting music of the “Celtic Advent Carol” to the spirited, traditional “Ding Dong Merrily on High” there is a song to get your toe tapping. With special guests from Tara School of Irish Dance. $18/$15 
  • Strathcona Gardens Family Pizza/Pool/Movie Party (all ages) 
  • Coastal Black Christmas: Experience the North Pole. 
  • Enjoy shopping for unique and beautiful gifts at the Fair Trade Global Craft Fair from 10am-4pm at Timberline Secondary School in the Gym. Call 250-287-8198 for more information. 
  • The Campbell River Children’s Choir invites you to two different concerts. “Shine a Little Light” is an afternoon concert featuring their youngest choir starting at 3pm at the Maritime Heritage Centre. “Dance in the Rain” is their gala evening concert featuring the youth choir with special guests. Concert time is 7:30pm. Tickets for both concerts available at the Music Plant. 
  • Christmas Craft Sale December 7 & 8. 10:00am-4:00pm 1218 Bute Crescent, Homalco Cultural Centre.
