Monday, October 27th

Tuesday, October 28th

  • Open Studio: Life Drawing. This is a non-instructional program designed for those who wish to practice their figure drawing skills. Wednesday, October 29th
  • Halloween Fun Swim at Strathcona Gardens. Dive in for a night of frightful family fun with games, prizes and the floating skeleton game! Just $2 which includes admission to our haunted house: 6:30-8pm. 250-287-9234 
  • Rivercity Players present Noises Off, “the funniest farce ever written” by Michael Frayn. Tickets are $20, available at Impressions Custom Framing (250-286-1612), CR Laundromat (250-286-662) and Comfort Zone Foods (250-923-3973). Warning of occasional coarse language. Runs October 29th, 30th, November 1st, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th at 7:30pm with one matinee at 2pm on November 2nd. Presented at Rivercity Stage at 1080 Hemlock Street. 
  • The Downtown Campbell River BIA presents the Downtown Pumpkin Walk! Follow the pumpkins along Shoppers Row & Tyee Plaza between October 29th & 31st – Everyone is invited to come see the decorated stores and carved pumpkins.

Friday, October 31st  
  • Calling all goblins, superheroes, princesses & witches! You are invited to creep through Downtown & pick up goodies from participating businesses as the BIA Pumpkin Walk wraps up with a Halloween Night ‘Trick or Treat’ between 4:30pm and 6:30pm.

Saturday, November 1st
  • A comedic, one-woman “tour de force” entitled Til' Death: the Six Wives of Henry VIII will bring to life all the messy details in this highly acclaimed Monster Theatre production, 7:30pm at the Quadra Community Centre stage. Equal parts comedy, tragedy and reality TV show, “Til’ Death” has captured the attention of audiences across the country. Advance tickets are $15, available at the Music Plant in Campbell River and at Impressions or Works of H’Art on Quadra. 
  • It’s “a guaranteed party!” at the Tidemark Theatre with The Rocky Horror Picture Show up on the big screen. Lots of people will dress up (there is a costume contest before the show!); there will be props and dancing and all around audience participation. 8am-10pm, $35; 250-287-PINK 
  • Interactive comedy dinner show fundraiser for the CR Genealogy Society, 5pm at the Maritime Heritage Centre. Music by Kin-fo and catering by the Royal Coachman. Tickets ($40) available at the Maritime Heritage Centre or the Genealogy Society Library. 
  • Rivercity Players present “Noises Off”, 7:30pm.  
  • Super Saturday drop-in art at the Art Gallery: Name Logo. Taking your own name, create a logo using a range of different materials. 1-3pm, 250-287-2261. 
  • Painting & Potters Show (Christmas Bazaar) at the Community Centre gym and upstairs lounge. Includes a silent auction of donated items, plus knitting, quilts, crafts, baked goods and much more. Concession available to raise money for Specialized Recreation programs. Funds from the bazaar go to support 50+ Active Living programs. Free admission, 10am-1pm; 250-286-1161. 
  • 8th Annual Pumpkin Smash in the Parking lot of Strathcona Gardens, hosted by the Campbell River Compost Education Centre. Have a smashing good time while helping to keep tons of organic waste out of the landfill. Pumpkins will be turned into rich compost instead of ghoulish waste. 250-287-1625. Runs Saturday and Sunday.

  • Many Paths to a Dream: Diana Stevan has worked as a family therapist, CBC TV sports writer broadcaster, teacher, model and actress, but her big dream has always been to write a novel. “A Cry from the Deep” is a romantic mystery/adventure story, and Diana will be reading from it at the book launch, 6:30pm at the Campbell River Library, as well as talking about her self-publishing journey with Trevor McMonagle.   Q & A to follow!   
  • Open Studio: Life Drawing. This is a non-instructional program designed for those who wish to practice their figure drawing skills. Bring along your drawing/painting materials and the gallery will provide the art model! Tuesdays from 6:30-9pm until November 11th. Drop in for $12.50 (GST included).   • Join local naturopathic doctors for the screening of 2011 tiff film “Pink Ribbons, Inc.” followed by a panel discussion to raise awareness for breast cancer. 7-9:30pm in the Lounge at the Campbell River Community Centre. Suggested $10 donation – all proceeds go to Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre research.

Friday, October 24th       

  • The CR Art Gallery presents the award-winning film “Herb & Dorothy”. The incredible true story of a postal worker and a librarian who built a wold-class art collection. Tickets are $20, available at the Tidemark Theatre. Doors open at 6pm, reception at 6:30pm, film begins at 7:30pm. The night will also feature a contemporary art exhibition, wine, wearable art, door prizes and more! 
  • Pool Party Mayhem (Teen Swim)! $6 admission includes snacks, challenges, pool games and prizes – for grades 6 and up. For more info call 250-287-9234.

Saturday, October 25th   

  • Hallowe’en at the Museum! Spooky lego from 1-2:30pm (kids can choose from the Museum’s huge collection to make the scariest creations possible), $5 per child. Then from 2-4pm, explore the exhibits, complete with eerie visions and creepy sounds, and find surprises around every corner! Be sure to visit the genuine gypsy fortune teller and stop by the theatre for story-telling! Just a toonie for admission; 250-287-3103. Sunday, too! 
  • Inclusion is co-hosting an evening of great music at the Community Centre with special guest performer Blaine Waldbauer. All funds raised go to the Homeless in Campbell River. 7-9:30pm; admission by donation with refreshments available. 
  • Vampire & Werewolf themed party (ages 6-12) at Strathcona Gardens. Skate, dance, sing karaoke and lip sync to your favorite themed tracks, including songs from Teen Wolf, Vampire Diaries & the Twilight Saga. There will also be TV/movie trivia games!   • Drum legend Terry Bozzio performs solo drum music on the world’s largest tuned drum and percussion set as he celebrates the 50th anniversary of his first drum lesson.   • Super Saturday: Full Body Tracings. Recreate yourself – make a body double or twin by tracing around your actual body and dressing it up with tissue paper for a lively and colourful you. Free drop-in, 1-3pm at the Art Gallery; 250-287-2261. 
  • Discover Old Time Gospel Singing, 7pm at the Discovery Community Church (250 10th Ave). 
  • Brian Scott is hosting a workshop to raise money for scholarships at NIC Foundation. ‘Sketching for Travellers’ will look at awakening the senses to “see the world as child”. Sunday, October 19th

  • Can you survive the apocalypse? The ‘Zombie Escape’ 4km obstacle course will challenge your fitness, wit and ability to avoid hungry members of the undead. Finish the race with at least one of your flags attached to survive. Event will be held at Willow Point Park. Visit the Sportsplex or Community Centre to register ($10) or go to www.facebook.com/CampbellRiverZombieEscape  and volunteer as a zombie! 
  • 25th Anniversary of ‘the friendliest little road race on Vancouver Island’: the Miracle Beach 10K & 5K. The route is popular with beginner runners who are looking for a relaxed, fun event while seasoned runners love the flat, fast course for posting personal best race times. The race starts at 10am in the Miracle Beach Nature House parking lot. There is an early start for 10K walkers at 9:30am. After the main race there is the very popular 1K fun run for the kids, which is free (register on site). Following this the runners head to the beach for soup provided by Fusilli Grill, cookies, awards and draw prizes of pumpkins and pies! Contact crriverrunners@gmail.com for details.
