Campbell River Events April 16th to 22th

Campbell River Events April 16-29th

January 27th to April 22nd“Working in the Woods Today” Museum Exhibit

‘Working in the Woods Today’ is a photographic exhibit showcasing the recent history of logging that will be on display at the Museum at Campbell River beginning January 27, 2012. Curated by local photographer and writer Hans Peter Meyer, this exhibition features superb images with informative text about the men and women working in BC’s coastal forest industry in the 21st century. The exhibition is part of a bigger project to produce a large format photo book about BC’s coastal forest industry.

Meyer says that there is an abundance of images from the "glory days of logging," but almost nothing has been published since the 1950s about the industry as a place where real men and women work (in remote locations, and often under dangerous conditions). Meyer grew up in the Comox Valley, and as a young man, worked in the woods and on the booms, and then for several more years in reforestation. In 2002, he started photographing the coastal forest industry, first for Truck Logger Magazine. Examples of his work can be seen at www.coastalforestindustryproject.com.  Be sure to come and see these outstanding photos while there are here! An official opening of the exhibit at the Museum with Meyer will take place in February.  For further information, call the Museum at 250-287-3103.

After leaving home, Donna settled in the small village of Thessalon, Ontario. She resided there for 3 years and was extremely successful with her small bakery business which she operated from her farm house situated on 160 acres of land.

She then moved to Sudbury to live and work with her sister. It was here that she was surprised and pleased to receive compliments from strangers commenting on how she looks like "Shania Twain". Even Shania Twain had commented that after seeing a poster of Donna, "I thought that was me!!! Donna is the best 'Shania Twain Tribute out there."

Donna put in countless hours practicing to sing like Shania, watching her videos over and over, studying to emulate her moves and the way she presented herself.

Donna met with an agent in the music business and after listening to her sing, and not to mention her uncanny resemblance to one of country music's most beautiful and successful women, it was obvious that Donna was about to embark on something that would change her life forever.

They worked to put a band together, practiced for a few months, and the rest is history. Donna has been on the road since March of 1996 as the most successful Tribute Act in Canada and throughout the United States and Europe. Tickets on sale now at the Tidemark Theatre Box Office for $31.50.

Muhammad Ali was arguably the greatest boxer of the 20th century, and that rare fighter whose presence in the culture of the day was equal to (or perhaps even greater than) his remarkable skills in the ring. Ali was a superb fighter who squared off against a variety of gifted athletes during his career, and filmmaker Pete McCormack offers a new perspective on Ali through this documentary, in which some of his opponents speak about their experiences with the man. Produced in association with Spike TV, Facing Ali was an official selection at the 2009 Los Angeles Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
Local filmmaker Ian Kerr's work has been recognized by a number of awards including a 2011 Emmy Award for Outstanding Cinematography and Gemini and CSC awards. Ian also recently shot Facing Ali which was shortlisted for an Academy Award for Best Documentary. His projects have taken him from the Ecuadorian Amazon to the ice floes of the Arctic to the thin air of the Argentenian Andes at 21,000 feet and beyond. Cost is $8. 7pm at the Tidemark Theatre.
