The end of the month has come upon us at last! However, the summer isn't over until September 22nd so there is still plenty of time to enjoy this great season.
As I know you are probably still looking around for things to keep you busy, here's a list of what is going on in the beautiful city of Campbell River over the next week.

Monday, August 27th:
Strathcona Gardens Recreation Centre will be putting on a couple more day camps for kids this week, including Pond Hockey and Coolest Game on Earth.
Pond Hockey will be taking place from 10am to 3pm from Monday through to Thursday, August 30th. Everyone is welcome to join in, and the price is only a Toonie!
Coolest Game on Earth will also be running from 10am to 3pm and will go right through the week till Friday, August 31st. Kids ages 6-12 are invited to learn basic hockey skills both on and off the ice.

Tuesday, August 28th:
There will be another Lunch in the Square taking place this Tuesday from 11:30am to 1:15pm at the Campbell River Spirit Square. Get ready to welcome the award winning Canadian singer/songwriter Sue Pyper and her timeless acoustic folk! Sue's natural ability to put audiences at ease makes her a fun and personable stage host, allowing her to share her music in a way that is especially memorable. Make sure to grab your lunch and head on down to the Spirit Square to enjoy this great music as well as some fresh, ocean air!
Wednesday, August 29th:
Serious Coffee in Willow Point will be holding their weekly Jam Night on Wednesday evening from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Every Wednesday evening a group of musicians sit around and share music in an informal, relaxed setting. Everyone is welcome to join in or just sit and listen to so free, local music.Thursday, August 30th:
This week's 99.7 The River concert will be once again taking place on Thursday evening, and will feature the cajun-style music of Bijoux du Bayou! Get ready for some high energy music combining Cajun, Zydeco, Swing, Calypso, and a few other flavors to create a sound that would make the Amish want to do the Bugaloo!
So grab your lawn chairs and your family and friends, and head on down to the Spirit Square in order to enjoy this free concert! Music starts at 7pm, but make sure to come early as the square fills up fast.
Friday, August 31st:
The Campbell River Art Gallery will be setting up a new exhibition on Friday labelled "Nickels & Dimes." This exhibition by Jay Hanscom pairs mixed media drawings on paper with a series of large scale mixed media and resin pieces on wooden box frames. Utilizing various motifs and cultural symbols, Hanscom's work combines boyhood themes of masculinity and heroism with conflicting adult frustrations of power and prospect.

The band Switchback will be playing live on Friday night at the Quinsam Hotel. For more information on this show, you can call the Quisam at 250-286-9811.
Saturday, September 1st:
The Storey Creek Men's Labour Day Golf Tournament begins on Saturday and runs for 3 days on the championship golf course.
The entry fee for this tournament is $220 and includes 3 rounds of golf, reduced rates for a practice round, free range balls, Hole in One prizes, KP prizes, a 2 for 1 golf coupon, and a great prize table. Saratoga Speedway will be showing a Canadian American Demolition Derby, Crash to Pass, Road runners, and Hornet cars show on Saturday to all interested in attending!
The Campbell River Art Gallery will be holding another Super Saturday Art Class this week with the theme being Clay Sculptures Inspired by the Beach. Shape or carve clay into shapes inspired by the ocean. Air fire your pieces, then take them to the beach on a sunny day and watch the tide shape them into part of our ocean environment.
Admisson for this event is by donation, and children 12 and under must by accompanied by an adult. For more information, you can contact the Art Gallery at 250-287-2261.
Sunday, September 2nd:
The Pier Street Farmers' Market will be taking place on Sunday by the Discovery Fishing Pier and Maritime Heritage Centre, 10am to 2:30pm. This is an open air market that offers a wide selection of farm products, processed foods, an array of arts and crafts, as well as fun and entertainment. Customers can spend the morning browsing through the market before taking a walk along the Pier and enjoying a nice, cold ice cream.
