Thursday, June 13th
250-287-2261
Everyone
is invited to attend the unveiling of a large-scale art installation by
renowned Ontario artist Amanda McCavour. McCavour creates everything from
household rooms to verdant gardens from embroidery that is unlike anything
you’ve seen before. She creates her work by sewing into fabric that dissolves
in water, leaving only stitched lines behind. This results in delicate
furniture, flowers, leaves, snowflakes and other shapes that have a ghostly
quality. McCavour will also present an illustrated lecture at the June 13
opening; her embroidered installations seem ghostly and lacelike, as they are
suspended in mid-air. She presents everything from rooms in her childhood home
to imagined floral displays. Thread – a seemingly fragile material – becomes an
incredibly strong medium.
Make
sure to mark your calendars for Thursday, June 13 at 7:20 p.m.

Campbell River Art Gallery is open Monday to Saturday from 10 p.m. to 5 p.m.
