  • Dancing & Tapas: Rotary’s Annual Wheelchair Foundation Fundraiser at North Island College.   • “Skinanigans” event at Mt. Cain, 10am; www.mountain.org 
  • Join writers/instructors Jeanette Taylor & Annette Yourk to learn some tricks of the trade in a weekend workshop on beautiful Cortes Island. Participants plunge into a nonfiction writing project and take home a wealth of ideas and tools to maintain their momentum. Runs 12:30-5pm on April 5th & 6th.   • The Museum at Campbell River is offering a hike to the lookout at the end of the Ripple Rock Trail in commemoration of the 56th anniversary of the Ripple Rock explosion. The hike, with guide Ross Keller, offers a fantastic view of the challenging waters of Seymour Narrows.  Keller will talk about Ripple Rock as well as various other aspects of this wonderful trail. The hike takes place on Saturday, April 5, from 9:00 am to 1 pm.  The cost is $20 per person.   Please pre-register with the Museum at 287-3103.  Space is limited.  The group will meet at the trailhead on Highway 19.

  • Le Maracle, the author of “Sojourner’s and Sundogs”, “Daughters Are Forever”, “Will’s Garden” and “Ravensong”, will appear at the North Island College Campus Theatre in Campbell River to read from her works.   • Happy St. Patrick’s Day! 
  • Cinema Politica and Timberline Earth Club present “Troubled Water”, a documentary by Paul Manly, at the Timberline Theatre (1685 Dogwood St.), 7:15pm. The film examines the threats to public water systems and watersheds on Vancouver Island and elsewhere. It also shares on how we can work towards maintaining water as a public trust.

Thursday, March 20th

  • The Art Gallery will be holding their AGM followed by a 22-minute film, “Reflections: Art For An Oil-Free Coast”, which follows a number of BC’s most celebrated artists who journeyed into a remote landscape facing the threat of a proposed oil pipeline and increased oil tanker traffic. Special guests/artists for the evening include Esther Sample and Kevin Johnson. Admission is by donation. AGM at 7pm, screening at 7:30pm.

Friday, March 21st  

  • Sure an’ begorrah we’ll all be loving the Irish when John Reynolds takes to the Herons stage March 21st. This two-course dinner and show will leave a smile on your lips, your heart brimming with Canadian-Irish songs & stories and supremely satisfied taste-buds. Saturday, March 22nd
  • Super Saturday at the Art Gallery, 1-3pm: Bookmarks and Luggage Tags. Using old maps, we’ll make some nifty book marks and labels or luggage tags to take with you on your next trip! All materials provided, admission Is free (donations gladly accepted). 
  • Snowbird: A Tribute to Anne Murray at the Tidemark Theatre, 7pm. Featuring Laura Gillespie, this multi-media show will take you back over four decades from the life of  Canada’s Sweetheart: hits, career highlights and songs like “Could I have this Dance”, “Cotton Jenny” and “Snowbird”. This is a licensed event, must be 19+. 250-287-PINK 
  • Mt. Cain Kidsfest – open to everyone under 16 – skiers and boarders of all levels. Registration starts at 8am and the events will begin at 9:30am. Races, obstacle course, snow sculpture and more! www.mountain.org 
  • As part of the current ‘Animals Amoung Us’ exhibit, the Museum will host an Open House from 1-3pm on Animal Care in our Community with MARS and the SPCA. A live ambassador from MARS will be part of the day. Call 250-287-3103 for more details.
