 8th to 14th    
Monday, December 8th

  • 2014 Artisans’ Market. For 6 weeks each year, the CR Art Gallery is transformed into a beautiful market featuring a wide variety of creative work from coastal and regional artists. You’ll find locally-crafted items of pottery, woodwork and knitwear to jewelry, glass and soap – not to mention spices, candles and decorations! Stop in this holiday season: Monday to Saturday, 10am- 5pm from November 13th to December 24th. 250-287-2261 
  • The Museum’s second annual Festival of Trees continues with 20 gorgeous and uniquely themed trees displayed for all to enjoy. A running model train (set up by the North Island Railroaders), an exhibit of nostalgic toys and Ron Francis’ one-of-a-kind collection of hand-crafted wooden toys will complete the festive scene! 250-287-3103 
  • Garden Lights & Santa’s Barn at Kitty Coleman Woodland Gardens. Every night, from 5-9pm, between December 1st and 26th. Visit www.woodlandgardens.ca for more information on which weekends to see Santa or take a ‘Carol walk’ with Cantiamo Chamber Ensemble.

Tuesday, December 9th

  • International Women’s Group at the Immigrant Welcome Centre (740 Robron Road) from 11:30am-1:30pm. Fun, food, friendship and international adventure. For more information contact Tamara at 250-830-0171.

Wednesday, December 10th

  • Philosophers’ Café returns to the On-Line Gourmet, 6:30-7:30pm, with the topic question: “Are we getting lonelier?” and Senior’s Advocate Helen Whitaker to lead the discussion.

Friday, December 12th

  • It’s Friday Night at the Movies for All Ages at Strathcona Gardens! Enjoy a relaxing skate on the leisure ice while watching Mr. Peabody & Sherman. Admission ($4/$10) includes 2 slices of pizza and a juice box. Open 5:15pm-8pm (movie starts at 6pm). 250-287-9234 for more information. 
  • Coastal Black Christmas – visit www.coastalblack.ca to learn about all the festivities happening at 2186 Endall Road this month, including photos with Santa, live reindeer, a nativity scene, holiday games, Mrs. Clause’s Kitchen and other special features!

Saturday, December 13th

  • Chestnuts & Carols at the Museum! An afternoon of Christmas joy including roasted chestnuts by the CR Italian Cultural Society. Accordion music will be wafting in the air from 1-1:30pm, musical performances from vocal jazz group True Blue with Holiday favourites at 1:30pm & 3pm and RainCoast Creative Performing Arts students leading a sing-a-long from 2-2:30pm. Santa will even be there at 2:30pm! This is a FREE family event; hot cider and goodies provided. 
  • Santa Swim (All Ages) at Strathcona Gardens from 12:30-4pm (just $2). Fun winter activities and challenges are planned and Santa will be there around 2pm – you can even get your FREE photo with Santa e-mailed to you before Christmas! 250-287-9234 for more info. 
  • Super Saturday: Emily Carr’s Birthday. Celebrate this famous Canadian painter by adopting her style to paint fir and cedar trees. 1-3pm at the CR Art Gallery; 250-287-2261 
  • Quadra Singers and friends present “Twas the Night Before Christmas” at the Quadra Community Centre, 7pm. The evening program showcases the Quadra Singers performing an eclectic mix of joyful seasonal music as well as special guests Bob Sutherland, Julie Rigby and a children’s choir. Christmas story reading and chime ringing will be shared as well as featured ensembles and the opportunity to carol along. Tickets are at the door ($12/$5) and children under five are free!

Sunday, December 14th

  • Pier Street Christmas Craft Fair at the Maritime Heritage Centre returns for three Sundays in December, 10am-3:30pm, with over 60 different craft and food vendors! $1 admission (kids are FREE) www.pierstreet.com   
  • Balance Equestrian Centre is hosting a Christmas Family Fun Day with pony rides ($5), Santa ($5 or $10 for photo printed on site) and free face-painting! Bake sale, hot drinks and food also available. Bring a donation for the food bank to enter our Free Lesson draw. 1-2:30pm at 2105 Shetland Road; 250-202-3105 
  • The annual Christmas Light Tour is back for its 33rd year! This free event takes Riverites to the biggest and brightest light displays in our community – a partnership between the Willow Point Lions Club and Campbell River Transit. The tour departs from the Sportsplex at 7pm and takes about 45-60 minutes. Following the tour, everyone is invited back to the Sportsplex for coffee and refreshments at 8pm. Non-perishable food items for the food bank are gladly accepted. For more information contact CR Transit at 250-287-7433. 
  • King of Heaven: a contemporary music celebration for Christmas at CR Baptist Church, 10:30am. FREE! 250-287-8831.
