Monday, October 21^st 

•  Last chance to register for Zombie Escape 3/5km obstacle course at Willow Point Park this Sunday from 1pm-5pm. Contact the City of Campbell River at 250-923-7911 for more information on how to participate and register as either a runner or a zombie.

Tuesday, October 22^nd

• ‘Open Studio’ at the Art Gallery features live model figure drawing. Every Tuesday from 6:30pm to 9pm between October 8^th and November 12^th. The drop-in fee to participate is $12.50, artists can pre-register for all six sessions for only $55! Call 250-287-2261 for more info. 
•  Campbell River Festival of Film continues with ‘Amour’: George and Anne are in their eighties: cultivated, retired music teachers. One day Anne has an attack and the couple’s bond of love is severely tested. Rated PG-13, tickets are $14 at the door or buy them online at www.tidemarktheatre.com 
• Harlem Crowns basketball team returns to take on local Carihi alumni for this fun-filled family event to raise support for the Carihi basketball program. • North Island Hospitals Project invites you to attend an information session to take place at Thunderbird Hall, 1420 Weiwaikum Road, from 7pm-9pm. The meeting will start with a presentation followed by a Q&A session; for more information visit www.viha.ca 
• Beginner Watercolour with Caren Heine at the Art Gallery will provide all the answers you need to move forward with watercolours.  The cost is $118 for non-members, contact 250-287-2261 or programs@crartgallery.ca to register. • The 24^th Street Wailers is a band that breaks all the rules. This Rockabilly/blues band will be at the Tidemark Theatre tonight at 7:30pm! Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the box office or online at www.tidemarktheatre.com 
•  Grandmothers to Grandmothers Present: “From Under the Bushy Trees”, A Film. A Fundraiser. A Turning of the Tide. The movie is about the challenges and rewards of building a school in poverty-stricken Chad. Meet the director and see a marketplace with Kazuri beads, refreshments and more. At Timberline/NIC Theatre, entrance is by donation and all proceeds go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Doors open at 7pm and the movie begins at 7:45pm. 
•  YPCR’s Second Annual Gala at the Maritime Heritage Centre is expected to sell out so grab your tickets online at www.ypcampbellriver.com while you can! It is a wonderful opportunity to dress up, celebrate the YPCR, and show your support for local initiatives – this year the Discovery Passages Aquarium will benefit from the fundraising efforts of the gala. • The 7^th Annual Fall Home Expo at the Sportsplex is a free event and a great place to get inspired by the latest ideas in home improvement and decorating. Friday from 4-9pm (See Saturday and Sunday too!). 
• Halloween fun swim at Strathcona Gardens 6:30 to 8pm. A night of frightful family fun with games, prizes & the floating skeleton game; costumes are optional, but remember your bathing suit! Fee includes entry to our Famous Haunted House – call 250-287-9234 for more info!

• Sweet Tease Burlesque’s Annual Halloween Bash with special guests ‘Trouble Galore’; Ages 19+, $20 at the door. 
• Rotary Pumpkin Sale (to end Polio!) from 10am-4pm at Real Canadian Superstore. Rotary will be selling whole pumpkins AND cleaned out, ready-to-carve pumpkins as well as hot dogs, drinks and snacks. 
• The Art of the Paddle auction at Maritime Heritage Centre will be led by world-renowned carver Bill Henderson; a galaxy of artists, both aboriginal and non-aboriginal, are lending their skills to this major fundraiser for the CR Hospice Society and BraveHearts Dragon Boat team. Tickets are $20 each and can be obtained at the Hospice office, at the Royal Bank, or by calling 250-286-1121. 
• The Museum at Campbell River kicks off its Fall Lecture Series with author Joan Harper and her book, ‘He Moved a Mountain: The Life of Frank Calder and The Nisga’s Land Claims Accord’ from 1pm-2:30pm. $6 to attend; call 287-3103 for more information.

• Zombie Escape 5k at Willow Point Park. Register at the Sportsplex or Community Centre (zombieescape5k.wordpress.com). If you were too late to register, don’t let the zombies scare you away from being a spectator! 
• ‘Click and Treat’ mini photo-shoots with Outer Island Photography – $65 for a session with treats for the little ones and a disc with 10 photos for the grownups. Please email outer_island_photography@yahoo.ca for additional info. 
• 7th Annual Fall Home Expo continues: Sunday 10am-4pm

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

• The New Orford String Quartet will be kicking of the Quadra Cultural Committee’s 2013/14 concert series at the Quadra Community Centre this Thanksgiving. Throw your turkey in the oven, grab your coats, and head over for what promises to be an extraordinary delight! Tickets are available at the Music Plant in CR and on Quadra at Hummingbird Office and Art Supply (Q Cove) and Works of H’Art in Heriot Bay. Advance tickets are $17 ($20 at the door). •  “Our Journey: Expressions Through Art” is a very unique and exciting collection of children’s art created by local children and youth who have worked with Counselors at CR Family Services Society; open for public viewing at the Tidemark Theatre between October 15^th and 19^th 
•  Journalist Katherine Palmer Gordon will give a reading of her book We are Born with the Songs Inside Us: Lives and Stories of First Nations People in British Columbia, at Coho Books (1074 Shoppers Row), 5:30pm. This is a free event.

Wednesday, October 16^th  

•  Celebrate Spinning and Weaving Week at Sybil Andrews Cottage (2131 S. Island Hwy), 1PM-4PM. Join weavers, spinners, dyers and basket-makers around the world in celebration of our common heritage! Felting, carding, and fibre-fun, too!

• October 17^th has officially been proclaimed “ShakeOut BC Day” and you are invited to join thousands of British Columbians as they “drop, cover and hold on” for the 2013 Great British Columbia ShakeOut – Canada’s largest earthquake drill! Friday, October 18^th 

• Footloose Friday at the Tidemark. Support Rick Yurkewich in raising funds for New Dawn House in Campbell River & the Tidemark 25 Capital Campaign. How? Come watch the original 1984 Film starring Kevin Bacon on the Big Screen! $10 for a ticket! Call 287-PINK to learn more.  
• Dinner Theatre for Kids is back! In addition to food and a beverage, the audience will get the opportunity to be on stage doing improve – children must be accompanied by an adult. When the meal is finished the show will begin and following the performance is ice-cream, improve and fun (a great opportunity for children to try their hand at being on stage). Wonderful family entertainment and a place where memories are made, e-mail youngda@shaw.ca to inquire about getting your tickets and reserving a spot. 
• 12^th Annual Charity Chum Derby at Brown’s Bay Resort! Friday night registration and live entertainment. We are extremely proud to have raised over $50,000 at this event to benefit the Greenways Land Trust. Book early because they always sell out!

•  The Path Less Travelled: adventure, competition and stories from the world of free diving – a fundraising dinner at Heriot Bay Inn with Kirk & Mandy-Rae Krack of Performance Freediving International. Help a high school student set sail; support Carihi’s new Nautical Sciences Program: $49 includes a two-course dinner, a riveting talk, and a chance to bid at silent auction. Seating at 6pm, call 250-285-3322 to book your seat! (the evening will finish with time to catch the ferry back to Campbell River)

• Strathcona Gardens has total, wet, family fun planned from 12:30-2pm. Crazy relays, face-painting, tattoos, Sea-Doo’s, boogie boards, belly flop competitions & more! Plus educational activities, drowning prevention, PFD/lifejacket awareness and basic water safety activities - $2! In the evening ages 12-15 can sign up for overnight fun! Sunday, October 20^th 

•  24^th Annual Miracle Beach 10km and 5km Run/Walk is billed as the “friendliest little road race on the island”. The event features a flat, scenic course on country roads in Miracle Beach plus post-race soup, cookies, draw prizes and awards for the participants. The race begins at 10am (9:30am for walkers); register online at www.raceonline.ca or on the day between 8:30 and 9:45 at the Miracle Beach Nature house. Early entry fees are $20 ($10 for 19 & under) or $45 for a family of four (in a household). Fee will go up on October 19^th. For more info contact crriverrunners@gmail.com

Wednesday, October 9^th 

•  If you have a loved one or work with people with mental illnesses, you can gain a better understanding of what they are going through by attending the “Hearing Distressing Voices” workshop at the Maritime Heritage Centre from 1pm-4:30pm. In partnership with the CR Beacon Club and the Columbian Centre Society, registration is $25 and space is limited to 25 people. Contact robyn.ellsworth@shaw.ca or 250-286-8838 to register.
• 7pm at the Maritime Heritage Centre will be a screening of the documentary “On the Road to Find Out” where filmmaker Paul Manly tells the story of three individuals who experienced having to leave their homes to seek psychiatric treatment in Nanaimo; the 32-minute film will be followed by a discussion nd refreshments (free admission).

Thursday, October 10^th

• Campbell River Search and Rescue is Recruiting New Members! An Information Session & Open House will be held at the CRSAR Hall, 261 Larwood Rd, behind No. 2 Firehall, at 7:30pm. • World Premiere “Serenity Collection” presented by iEcotherapy at the Museum at Campbell River. Bringing nature’s calming ambiance to the family living room to help reduce physical and psychological illnesses for patients that can’t easily get outside and enjoy nature themselves.

• Family Pizza and Movie Night at Strathcona Gardens: enjoy a relaxing skate on the ice while watching a family flick (G/PG). 5:15pm to 8pm with the film starting at 6pm, admission is $4/person or $10/family which includes 2 slices of pizza and a juice box. All ages welcome – look for this event the 2^nd Friday of every month!

Saturday, October 12^th

•  Tidemark Cinemas presents “The Heat”: an uptight FBI Special Agent is paired with a foul-mouthed Boston cop to take down a ruthless drug lord. Starring Sandra Bullock, Michael McDonald and Melissa McCarthy (Rated R); $5 +tax.
• Third Annual Pumpkin Fest in Spirit Square! Lots of family fun from 11am to 2:30pm: pumpkin carving contest for all ages, face painting, celebrity pumpkin seed-spitting contest, and live music with Mission Hill Band!

Lego Master Alex Witcombe (a.k.a. Spook Dawg) will guide you through the afternoon. Lego Day is a great way to build that creative brain power and spend some quality time imagining ‘what if?’ The cost for Lego Day is only $5.00 (parents are free).
