This Cooking
Class Series features authentic dishes from Loas, India, Vietnam and Myanmar.
The guest chefs are
individuals who are originally from these countries and now call Campbell River
home. Each evening will include 2 to 3
recipes and a cookbook, which offers helpful tips and information such as where
to purchase unique ingredients. Classes are $35.00 each or do the series of 4
for only $100.00 - limited to 25 seats. All proceeds will support the Immigrant Welcome Centre’s local drop-in
groups. These weekly classes have been scheduled to start next Tuesday evening,
May 21 and include May 28, June 4 & 11 from 6pm to approximately 8:30pm at
Robron Centre in Room A114 - 740 Robron Road. Payment is required before the

Are you ready to get Poptastic? Join instructor Shannon McKirgan for
a fun and educational kids’ class all about Pop Art at the Campbell River Art
Gallery. The class, for children aged seven to 12, takes place over three
sessions, Wednesdays, May 8, 15 and 22,
from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The cost for Pop Art Pandemonium is $43 for CR Art

Everyone
is welcome to come out and trade with other artists at the CR Art Gallery this
Thursday at 7pm. Bring 15-20 cards (and friends!); cards should be 2.5x3.5
inches – originals are preferred, they are miniature works of art to be traded,
not bought or sold. This is a fun, social and creative program that meets four
times a year to swap trading cards. They can be painted, collaged, mixed media,
photographs, 3D shapes, or found objects. There are no rules. For more
information contact Shannon Proctor-McLeod at the Art Gallery.
The
discovery passage aquarium is becoming a reality and the progress can be
followed down at the Campbell River Fishing Pier. The Aquarium is hosting two
information sessions for anyone interested in volunteering or just wanting to
know more. Come down to the Pier Entrance Thursday, 4-6pm.

seaweeds of all shapes and colours, the beautiful Corallina, the destructive
"Stringy Acid Hair" and edible "Soda Straws". Take a look
at the "bully-of-the-beach and look closely at dozens of animals and
algae. Dress for the weather - rubber boots are essential! Please note that the
walk is uneven and can be extremely slippery. Call the Museum to register: $15

The Museum at Campbell River presents David Esson Young, the former
shipmaster of the Uchuck and author of The
Uchuck Years: A West Coast Shipping Saga. He will be reading tales and
showing photos from his 40 years of experience on Saturday from 1PM to 2:30PM.
The Uchuck Years abounds with stories and fond memories of unique coastal
characters, including logging camp bosses and genius engineers. It is an
enthralling historic account of one of BC’s most fascinating regions, written
by someone who lived most of his life in the heart of it. To reserve a seat
call the museum – cost for attending David’s talk is $6.

On May 25th Calvin Cairns & Paul O’Brien will be creating
another memorable evening in the Gardeners Green spring season of folk music
events focussing on the fiddle. As this concert will be in a private home,
seating is limited. Tickets are $20 ($10 for kids) and need to be reserved in
advance – call for details and reservations. Tickets include the usual dessert
buffet and also their popular charity raffle with great prizes. Ticket money
goes to the performers and the raffle will continue to raise money for the
Ursula Joy Trust Fund.

May Day is Quadra's oldest community celebration dating from 1898.
It is a non-commercial family event at Rebecca Spit replete with parade, May

in their annual Broom Bash – this year at the entrance to the Raven Trail on
