Beaver Lodge Lands’ 20th anniversary as a park, this dramatic struggle has
recently been translated into a children’s puppet show at the Museum at
Campbell River. Entitled ‘Bertie and the Beaver Lodge’, the show features
Bertie the Beaver and his friends as they fight to save their homes in the
forest. The show has been designed to teach children to respect the
forests and to show them that ordinary people can make a real difference when
they work together. The shows are 20
minutes long and will be followed by a themed craft. Call the museum for more

Join us for an evening of stories from the author of ‘Sweet
Assorted: 121 Takes from a Tin Box’ at the CR Library at 6:30pm. Half-finished
notes, scrawled snippets of conversation, observations made on the run,
photographs of people known and unknown, scraps of paper with puzzling sketches
on them, receipts, match-packs, postcards, and other assorted paraphernalia...
have all ended up in a Peek Frean’s tin biscuit box – which has provided the
essential ingredients for a fascinating assortment of highly entertaining
anecdotal tales.

46th Annual Salmon Festival & 2013 Logger Sports @ Nunn’s

The "Logger Sports" event (our heritage sport) depicts the
past and present logging practices through entertaining competitions between
loggers and is presently the largest in Canada for prize money and number of
events. This year’s show will offer 2 World Championship and 7 Canadian
Championships, along with other Open, Intermediate, Novice, ladies Youth and
Teen events. In keeping with our name, Salmon Festival, we will be presenting
the 6th annual Seafood Cook-Off Friday will be the Oyster Cooking Contest which
is tasted and judged by the public and Saturday and Sunday will be various
seafood competitions and demonstrations. There will also be a food booth with
salmon & oyster burgers to tantalize your taste buds. For the children and
seniors, North Island Logger Sports provides special areas with events tailored
for the enjoyment of all ages. At the children's area, the young ones can enjoy
a wide variety of FREE rides and events. At the other end of the spectrum, the
seniors can try their hand at cribbage at the Eagles Hall on Saturday Aug. 10
and Sunday Aug. 11. Daily Admission is $5 (Free 2 & <)

Annual Alpine Wine Festival
Over 14 wineries and distributors will be bringing a multitude of
varietals to sample on Friday, August 9. A sumptuous Wine Pairing Dinner on
Saturday, August 10 will be hosted by sommelier Jason Hyde of Peacock and
Martin. He will be joined by guest chef Daniele Mereu to deliver a gourmet
six-course dinner paired with perfect complementary wines (@ the Whiskey Jack
banquet room in the Alpine Lodge) $30 includes 10 tasting tickets and a
souvenir wine glass.

RCMP Musical Ride

The RCMP Musical Ride is coming to Campbell River – for two
performances! This includes 32 Mounties
donning their red uniforms and performing complex routines on horseback
to original Canadian Music, including the famous Bridal Arch. Saturday evening
and Sunday afternoon at the Trail Riders Equestrian Centre off of Highway 28
(up General Hill). Tickets are still available from the Visitor Centre: $10
adults, $6 students/seniors, and children 3 & under are Free! All proceeds are going to be split between
Campbell River Crime stoppers and Cops for Cancer Tour De Rock. Tickets also
available at Island Fever Travel, A Cut Above, RCMP Detachment and CR Trail
riders.
Drive 4 UR Community
Come on out and test drive a new Ford to help raise money for the
Campbell River & District Association for Community Living, supporting
programs for people with disabilities. Also includes a BBQ, performances by
Inclusion (11am – 1pm), games and much more! From 9am-5pm in the Wal-Mart
Parking lot.
4th Annual Wearable Art Fashion Show

Stunning art created for the human form will be featured at 7PM at
the Fourth Annual Wearable Art Fashion Show at the CR Art Gallery. The art
pieces will be presented with music in the Main Gallery, with dancers/models
performing on a central stage for everyone to admire. Generous prizes will be
presented in four categories: Best in Show (audience Choice), Best Performance,
Best Use of Recycled Materials, and Best Artistic Concept. Tickets are #30 for
Art Gallery members and $35 for non-members. This includes hors d’oeuvres, a
chance to win a door prize, as well as a special guest performance by Flamenco
dancer Cristina Maria Guzman. Call for more info.

Beach Salmon has been a staple food of the
