August 13th to August 19th

Another week, another round of events to take part in. After an exciting weekend of Logging Sports and delicious seafood concoctions, you might be thinking that there couldn't be anything to top what has already happened. However, Campbell River is never done when it comes to providing its residents and visitors with entertainment and fun.
So here it is - the list of events for next week.


Monday, August 13th:
The Campbell River Arts Council will be putting on a Digital Video Camp for 2D and 3D Animation. In one day, you'll learn  how to create 2D and 3D, import these animations into editing software and add music, sound, and special effects. These animations can then be published  on the internet.
The camp will run from 9:30am to 3:00pm, and is for ages 8 to 13. The cost will be $40. To register, you can contact the Arts Council at 250-923-0213, or email them at admin@crarts.ca.

Take a break from the sun to head over to the Campbell River Museum and participate in the Lego Day at the Museum from 1:00pm to 2:30pm. Families are invited to exercise their imagination and build whatever their mind can come up with. The cost of this event is $5 and parents are welcome to join in. You can call the Museum at 250-287-3103 to register.


Tuesday, August 14th:
The Campbell River Museum will be holding their Puppet Theatre at the Museum show on Tuesday at both 10:30am and 1:30pm. Captain Vancouver and the gang invite kids to join them for a lively puppet theatre performance based off of the history of Campbell River. The play runs for 20 minutes, and is followed by a craft activity immediately afterwards.
The cost for this show is $2 per person, and children 3 and under are free. For more information, you can contact the museum at either summer.programs@crmuseum.ca or at 250-287-3103.

There will be another Lunch in the Square taking place on Tuesday afternoon, 11:30am to 1:15pm, at the Campbell River Spirit Square. This week's band will be Rockland Road with Jude de Vries and Mark Eikland. Grab your lunch and head on down to enjoy the sun and some great music!


Wednesday, August 15th:
Serious  Coffee will be holding their weekly Jam Night on Wednesday evening from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Every Wednesday evening, a group of musicians sit around and share music in an informal, relaxed setting. Everyone is welcome to come and join in or just sit and listen.

Thursday, August 16th:
This week's 99.7 The River Concert will be presenting the Vancouver-based band Freeflow! This energetic band brings people out of their seats with a compelling sound that features everything from soul  and funk to reggae and rock. They have often been compared to bands like Sublime and The Red Hot Chili Peppers, yet have nurtured a sound all their own. So grab your friends, family, and lawn chairs, and head on down to the Campbell River Spirit Square from 7pm to 9pm to listen to some great music (just remember to come early as seats fill up fast!).

Friday, August 17th:
The 24th Annual Howie Meeker Special Olympics Golf Classic will go from Friday to Saturday at the Storey Creek Golf Course. The $125 entry fee includes a Friday night team gathering and auction and a Saturday morning 5 person team, 18 hole shotgun start followed by the awards banquet, draws, games and prizes and the Campbell River Sportsplex.

There will be a Croquet & Tea at Haig-Brown House on Friday from 1:30pm to 4pm. Travel back to a more regal time with a high society afternoon of tea and croquet at the Haig-Brown house. Tea, lemonade, and crumpets will await you while you enjoy spirited matches of croquet, or learn the fundamentals of the game.
The cost of this event is $7 per adult, and $3 per child.. If your group consists of four or more adults, the cost is $6 each. You can register with the Museum by calling 250-287-3103, or emailing them at summer.programs@crmuseum.ca.

Saturday, August 18th:

Continuing on the history side of things, Campbell River's third annual Heritage Day will be taking place on Saturday from 11am to 3pm! Head on down to the Spirit Square as we celebrate our history and culture through events such as music, puppets, people,and so much more!

The Art Gallery's theme for this week's Super Saturday Art Class is going to be Mini Art Journals! Turn square of paper into a personal sketchbook that you can take camping or on vacation with you this summer. Use stamps, sequins, and fabric to personalize your book! Admission for this class is by donation, and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. For more information, please call the art gallery at 250-287-2261. The class will go from 1pm to 3pm.

The Quadra Island Farmers' Market and Bazaar will take place on Saturday, 10am to 2pm, behind the Credit Union just up from the ferry. This market features local food, produce, goodies, music, entertainers, and more! For more information you can contact Suzanne at 250-287-1871

Sunday, August 19th:
The Campbell River Museum will be putting on another of their Historic Boat Tours on Sunday, with this week's destination being the beautiful Sonora Island. It takes about half an hour to reach Sonora Island by boat from Campbell River, cruising up the Discovery Passage past Quadra Island and through Seymour Narrows, and going over the famous site where Ripple Rock was destroyed in 1958.
This trip includes a lunch stop at Dent Island, and the cost is $150 per person plus tax. For more information or to make a reservation or for reservations please call the museum at 250-287-3103.

For those looking for something a little different to do this weeked, there will be a cemetary tour taking place on Sunday from 10am to 12pm. If you're interested, you can meet at the old cemetary at 10am, and the cost is $5 per person. To sign up, contact Janice at 250-923-6368.

The Campbell River Pier Street Farmers' Market takes every Sunday through the summer at the entrance to the Discovery Fishing Pier. It is an open-air market that offers a wide selection of farm products, processed foods, an array of arts and crafts, as well as fun and entertainment. The market will run from 10am to 2:30pm.
