BC Salmon Farmers Association are preparing for the final wrap-up for their Five Easy Pieces fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. On May 3, a fundraising clothing swap will be held at the BCSFA offices – and people are welcome to stop by and do a little ‘new-to-you’ shopping by donation from 4-7 p.m. Each staff member at the association has worn just five pieces of clothing to work for the month of April, raising pledges and challenging others in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. May 3rd-5th – Vancouver Island Fibre Fest 2013
The City of Campbell River is hosting our very first Fibre Fest on May 3, 4 and 5 at the Campbell River Community Centre (401 11th Ave). The event will feature three fabulous days of knitting, weaving, spinning, sewing, quilting and so much more. There will be workshops galore, a vendor mall, ongoing free demonstrations, a People’s Choice Gallery and lots of networking happening. This event is a fundraiser for Specialized Recreation Programs that the Recreation Department offers.  Registration has begun, and brochures are available with workshop details on the City of Campbell River website, at vancouverislandfibrefest.blogspot.ca and at the Community Centre.

May 4th – Book Launch – Celebrating Campbell River Writers
Dayle Gaetz and Kristin Butcher have been friends for 15 years; individually each has published over 20 books for children and young adults and now they are at it again. Saturday, May 4th, 1:30pm at the Campbell River Regional Library – no charge, just come early to get a good seat! There will be refreshments, prizes and books for sale in this hour of good fun!

May 4th – Rotary Honours Concert
The Tidemark Theatre and the Rotary Club of Campbell River will be presenting the annual Rotary Honours Concert. The acts performing are all award winners in their own fields and will be directed by Heather Gordon Murphy. In conjunction with Rotary’s commitment to the youth of our community, all profits derived from this event will be awarded to the selected acts. Celebrate the hard work and dedication of these fine young artists, their parents and their teachers.

May 4th – 12th Annual Angel Rock Dinner and Dance
Featuring a “Vegas” theme this year, catered by the Royal Coachman and dancing to Top Quality Music, Angel Rock is presented by the Campbell River Hospice Society. Come dressed in black and white or your favourite “Vegas” glittery attire. Saturday, May 4th at the Sportsplex. Cocktails at 5:30 pm, dinner at 6:30, then dancing until 1:00 am.  Tickets are $50/each and are available at the Hospice office – 250-286-1121 (#104 – 301 Dogwood St.)

Time: 9am-2pm. Drop by the compost education centre, tour the gardens, and ask questions about composting, pesticide awareness and upcoming workshops. If bringing samples for the master gardeners to identify please make sure they are in a sealed clear plastic bag.

May 4th – Strathcona Nordic Ski Club Fundraiser
On Saturday, May 4th, they will be selling bags of SkyRocket (high-nitrogen soil amendment) at $5 per 30 litre bag in Mariner Square – Drive-thru Style! The sale runs from 8am to 2pm (or until supplies lasts). All profits will go to support the Strathcona Nordics race team travel.

May 4th – Garage Sale Fundraiser

May 4th – Play Scrabble for Literacy
The Campbell River Literacy Association is hosting a Scrabble Fundraiser Saturday
May 4th, 2013. Both advanced and recreational players will enjoy three rounds of Scrabble. Players will be matched up with others of similar ability as much as possible. Beverages and snacks are provided for Scrabble players. Local businesses are generously supporting the event with the donation of prizes and food. Prizes will be awarded for areas such as top scores, lowest score, player bringing in the highest total in donations, and more. The fundraiser will run from 1-4pm in the Robron Centre’s library, 740 Robron Road. Pre-registration is required. Registration packages may be picked up at the Robron Centre room number #A121A or Coho Books April 9th, 2013. Completed registrations may be dropped off at the same locations.

May 4th & 5thEncaustic Painting and Collage Workshop
Participants in Linda Von Zuben’s Workshop will explore the properties of melted wax as they shape and mold it on a variety of surfaces. The workshop is set for Saturday, May 4th, from 10am to 4pm and Sunday, May 5th, from 10am-1pm at the CR Art Gallery studio. Members: $105 plus GST. Non-Members: $115 plus GST. May 5th – More Gems for the Rock Garden
Campbell River Garden Club’s May gathering featuring guest speaker Gordon MacKay. A second generation horticulturalist from the Glasgow area, Gordon was mentored by his father before receiving formal training at the Threave School of Gardening followed by a three-year program at Pershore College of Horticulture.  He came to Vancouver Island in 1994 for a one-year stint to help start Alba Plants and he enjoyed it so much that he’s been here ever since.

All Levels Kripalu Yoga: Thursdays at Ocean Resort 6:15 pm to 7:45 pm - Build on the basic postures and explore some advanced asanas to build strength and endurance. Use Pranayama techniques (breathing exercises) to delve into the vibrations of the body. Discover an open mind to sensations in the body as we hold postures beyond our initial desire to release. Open to all levels, but best if you know the basics. $15.
