Discovery Passages December 9th to 15th



Monday, December 9th 

  • Artisans Christmas Market continues at the Public Art Gallery, open Monday to Saturday (10am-5pm) until December 24th. Browse through a gorgeous boutique-style market to find that special gift. 
  • Teen Scene: Youth ONLY (Grade 6+). Come hang at the Gathering Place – 300 Robron on Monday nights from 6pm-8pm. Some nights we will cook dinner, listen to music and have some great activities. We are also going on some outings this season: swimming, skating, pool hall, climbing wall (let us know your ideas!) and it’s free! Come check it out.

 Tuesday, December 10th   

  • The Immigrant Welcome Centre will be holding a Cooking Class Series at Robron Centre, Tuesdays until December 10th (6pm-8:30pm).  Featuring authentic dishes from around the world, each evening will include 2 or 3 recipes and participants receive a cook book.   • The Immigrant Welcome Centre will be hosting another Tea Party at the British Shop on Shoppers Row; 5pm-6:30pm, with discussion and socializing. Contact 250-830-0171 or Jodi.Grundle@ImmigrantWelcome.ca (registration recommended)

Wednesday, December 11th   

  • Bikes for Kids. Swicked Cycles is graciously accepting donations of bicycles, which they will then re-furbish and pass along to a deserving kid. In association with the Salvation Army. Deadline for bikes is December 11th. Drop off your donations between 10 am – 5pm at Swicked Cycles, 1791 Spruce St. Campbell River. Call 250-914-2453 for more info.

Thursday, December 12th

  • Tidemark Lounge Series with Roger Seldon and Jilli Martini Band at 7pm. Just $10 at the door. 
  • Ladybug Greenhouse is hosting a Holiday Table Centerpiece workshop at 51 Colorado Drive (also on the 15th). Call 250-923-0707 to pre-register.

 Friday, December 13th

  • Yuletide Celebrations: An Old Fashioned Christmas Tea from 2pm-4pm at the Community Centre (in the Gym!). $5. 
  • Coastal Black Christmas: Experience the North Pole. Grab a hot coco and enter Santa’s Village or view ice sculptures created by a local artist in our Winter Wonderland - fun for the whole family! General Admission is FREE; $5 to walk through the winter wonderland ($1 from that being donated to local Food Bank). Runs 4pm-8pm 13th-15th & 20th-23rd 
  • Family night at the Movies (5:15pm-8pm) – enjoy a relaxing skate on the leisure ice while watching a family movie (the Smurfs 2!); $4/person or $10/family includes 2 slices of pizza and a juice box – movie starts at 6pm. 
  • ‘Stuff you Face’ extreme Teen swim for grades 6 and up at Strathcona Gardens. $6 admission includes snacks, weird eating challenges, Cheeto Head races and other crazy messy fun. Come prepared to get gooey – complementary showers! 
  • Specialized recreational Christmas baking at the Community Centre catering kitchen, 3-5pm. Make a variety of yummy traditional and not so traditional holiday treats – two/$22.

 Saturday, December 14th   

  • The Festival of Trees continues at the Museum – They are Open Daily for the Holidays, 10am-5pm. 
  • Tidemark Cinema Presents: It’s a Wonderful Life. Starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed, this Christmas Classic is sure to warm up your afternoon. 1pm. 
  • Christmas Lego Day at the Museum from 1pm-2:30pm. Bring the parents and build some Christmas decorations for the Museum’s Christmas Lego Tree! Lego master Alexander Witcombe will once again be offering a prize for the day. $5, call 250-287-3103 to register. 
  • Coastal Black Christmas: Experience the North Pole. 
  • Santa Swim (Toonie swim) for all ages at Strathcona Gardens, 12:30pm-4pm; winter activities and challenges are planned – great family fun! Santa arrives at 2pm: get your free photo with Santa e-mailed to you! 
  • Super Saturday at the Art Gallery: Wonder Bread Ornaments. Be amazed at the brilliant sculptures you can make using white bread as a sculpture medium. It works like clay! Sculpt vivid coloured ornaments for your tree – drop by 1pm-3pm for this free event; all materials provided, artists of all ages welcome.

 Sunday, December 15th

  • Pier Street Christmas Craft Market at the Maritime Heritage Centre, 10am-3:30pm 
  • Coastal Black Christmas: Experience the North Pole. 
  • A Story Telling Brunch! Beautiful stories from island storytellers with a fabulous brunch, silent auction and a fun raffle – 10:30am at the Heriot Bay Inn on Quadra Island. $29.95pp – call 250-285-3322 for more info.
