Monday, October 6th

  • Wanderlust Film Series at the Campbell River Library. Whether you’re a travel hound or home bound, this eclectic variety of Travel Themed Films is designed to inspire and delight. Monday evenings at 6pm. “Encounters at the End of the World” More info at 250-287-3655. 
  • The Pumpkin Patch at Shamrock Farm is open every day in October, 10am-5pm, U-pick pumpkins, corn/hay maze, hay rides, spooky pumpkin barn, witches brew cafĂ©, evening events, pumpkin contests, bonfire pit, sweet treats and tricks, pumpkin pie, hot chocolate, spiced apple cider – it’s all available! Tuesday, October 7th    

  • Open Studio: Life Drawing. This is a non-instructional program designed for those who wish to practice their figure drawing skills. Bring along your drawing/painting materials and the gallery will provide the art model! Tuesdays from 6:30-9pm until November 11th. Drop in for $12.50 or do all 6 sessions for $62.50 (GST included). Friday, October 10th      

  • Friday night at the Movies at Strathcona Gardens. Enjoy a leisure skate and take in a family movie at the same time! 250-287-9234 for more details. 
  • In honour of this region’s fallen soldiers, the Museum, in partnership with CR’s Genealogy Society, will unveil ‘Our Cenotaph’. The exhibit will feature photographs and descriptions of the lives of those who volunteered for service in the First and Second World Wars and of their contributions to the war effort. Open House is from 4:30-6:30pm. For further information call 250-287-3103. 
  • ‘Gear Up For Winter’ Sale & Movie Screening at Mt Washington. Join us this Thanksgiving weekend for sweet deals and free fun! From the 10th-12th we will be open with awesome deals on winter apparel and equipment. Check out Saturday for Film Screening and Chairlift Rides!

Saturday, October 11th

  • PUMPKINFEST at Spirit Square, 11am-3pm. Pumpkin Carving Contest, Kids Games, Celebrity Seed-Spitting Contest and Live Music by Mission Hill Trio! 
  • Described as one of the most dynamic ensembles of its generation,  the Vancouver-based Borealis String Quartet would be a great Thanksgiving treat!! Opening the Quadra Cultural Committee’s 2014/15 season, 7:30pm at the Quadra Community Centre.   • CR Fall Festival of Film: Boyhood; visit www.tidemarktheatre.com for tickets and information. Proceeds go back to the community. Individual tickets may be purchased at the door for $12 or get a pass for all five films (plus a series of shorts and draws) for $45! 

Wednesday, October 1st

  • Team Generous Animation Screening & Premiere at the Tidemark Theatre, 7pm. This film will go to benefit all Habitat for Humanity affiliates across Canada and proceeds from the event will go towards the Hilchey Build project locally. Suggested donation of $10; 250-334-3777. 
  • Super Saturday: Sculptural Panels. Inspired by exhibiting artist, John Schevers, build up a textured surface on a board to create a colourful, textural panel. 1-3pm at the Campbell River Art Gallery; 250-287-2261.

Students will learn to cut stencils and play with citrus concentrate to manipulate images from National Geographic magazines. This family-friendly event provides an opportunity for the public to explore the House and grounds and explores the themes of fishing, literature and conservation – includes fly-tying demos, fly-fishing lessons, children’s games and crafts, good food, great displays and property tours. The festival also serves to showcase local artistic and musical talent and readings from Haig-Brown’s writings are given in the study.   • Caren Heine returns by popular demand with her engaging and inspiring teaching style. “Moving Forward in Watercolour” will expand on the intricacies of painting and colour mixing, techniques for handling various painting surfaces, drawing and laying washes as well as brushwork techniques.   • Passages & Transformations: Art of John Schevers. A symbolic visual and experiential narrative of the immutable laws of nature – the cycle of life and the interconnectedness of all things. Schevers is constantly pushing the boundaries of his materials and experimenting to add greater texture and depth to his 2D compositions. Also view the collaborative exhibition “Dreaming the Earth” by Donna Naven and Lisa Gibbons, influenced by the wild and natural world. At the Art Gallery, September 18th-20th, 12pm-5pm. 
  • Join Cheryl Taylor and Martina Kowochuk at the Art Gallery for this Mixed Media Sculpture class. This multi media paper mache class will move far beyond the tradition of paper and paste to include found objects, fabric, wire and more.
