Monday, November 18th 

  •  Campbell River Library & Coho Books present a program about “Raincoast Chronicles 22: Saving Salmon, Sailors and Souls”. This series has been celebrating the people who have defined BC coastal history since 1972. Please join local contributor Constance Kretz and editor David R. Conn as they celebrate the most recent issue, which highlights some of BC’s service workers, with a slideshow presentation and book signing at the CR Library (1240 Shoppers Row), 6:30pm. Tuesday, November 19th   

  • Artisans Christmas Market continues at the Public Art Gallery, open Monday to Saturday (10am-5pm) until December 24th. Browse through a gorgeous boutique-style market to find that special gift. 
  • The Campbell River Festival of Film continues with “20 Feet From Stardom” at 7pm. Backup singers live in a world that lies just beyond the spotlight. Their voices bring harmony to the biggest bands in popular music, but we have no idea who these singers are or what lives they lead - until now. Tickets are $14 available at the Tidemark Theatre. 
  • The Immigrant Welcome Centre will be holding a Cooking Class Series at Robron Centre, Tuesdays from November 19th until December 10th (6pm-8:30pm).  Featuring authentic dishes from around the world, each evening will include 2 or 3 recipes and participants receive a cook book.   • Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes are now available from the Discovery Church, the Willow Point dollar store, Thomas Cook the Travel Place on Shoppers Row, the Baptist Church, Christian Life Fellowship church, Vineyard Christian Fellowship church, Ocean Crest Salvation Army church and Periscope Promotions in Willow Point. Finished boxes can be dropped off at the Discovery Church Collection Centre between Tuesday, November 19th and Sunday November 24th.   • By popular demand, CR Art Gallery is extending the Open Studio for three more weeks! Tuesdays (19th, 26th, & 3rd) from 6:30-9pm drop in to the studio for life drawing - $12.50 per session. Artists at all levels gather to paint, sketch or sculpt from a live model each week. Call 250-287-2261 for more information. 

Wednesday, November 20th   

  • Glass Tiger at the Tidemark Theatre, 7:30pm. It’s been more than twenty years since they first topped the charts but Alan’s vocals are stronger than ever, and the band it tight and rockin’.  www.tidemarktheatre.com 
  • Drop in to the Philosophers’ café from 6:30-7:30pm at Sybil Andrews Cottage (2131 South Island Hwy). Each café offers a speaker who delivers a 10 minute talk on a provocative topic and then the floor is open for 50 minutes of discussion. The topic for today is “What’s to be done about the Senate? Do you know why it exists? Do we still need it? Should it be changed? The cost is free and there are tea, coffee and cookies by donation. 


Thursday, November 21st  

  • Artist Trading Card Event at CR Art Gallery, 7:00pm. Everyone is welcome – please bring 15-20 cards to trade and tell your friends so that there will be new faces with new cards! Let’s keep this wonderful sharing of art going – for more info call 250-287-2261 or email programs@crartgallery.ca 
  • Tidemark Lounge Series: Intimate with Dereck Lorentz & Richelle Andre ($10)


Friday, November 22nd   

  • The students and faculty of NIC’s Tourism and Hospitality Management program are once again hosting their Third Course Wine Festival at their Campbell River Campus. Just as if actually touring a renowned vineyard, guests are invited to step into the Winery Tasting Room for a gracious and distinctly unique evening of relaxed indulgence; also featuring The Wire Choir, door prizes, a silent auction and complimentary shuttle service home for local guests. The tasting room will open at 7pm; tickets to this semi-formal event are $50, available at Merecroft Village Liquor Store, Royal Coachman Liquor Store, and Gourmet Essentials as well as from NIC bookstores at both their CR and Comox Valley campuses. 
  • National Child Day Celebrations at the Community Centre from 10am-2pm. Variety of fun activities for kids six and under (accompanied by an adult) including a family gym, family place dancing, story times, cardboard village and entertainers on the main stage PLUS “Make It & Take It Crafts”. It’s all Free! A great day for preschoolers and their ‘big people’.


Saturday, November 23rd  

  • Annual CR Toy & Craft Show at the Sportsplex 10am-4pm. A fundraiser for City of Campbell River Recreation & Culture 50+ programs. Call 250-286-1161 for more information. 
  • Join Author Jim McDowell at the Museum for another lecture in their Fall Series. 1-2:30pm Jim will present on the impact of Father Braban, the father of Vancouver Island’s first, large residential school. Call 250-287-3103 for more info. 
  • Slopstacle Fun at Strathcona Gardens from 2-4pm. Oowy, Gooey fun. 
  • The Campbell River Filipino-Canadian Cultural Association is holding an “Appeal for help Charity Dinner & Dance” at the Community Centre to raise funds to support the people affected by the devastating effects of Typhoon Haiyan (YOLANDA). Doors Open at 5:30pm and dinner will be served at 6:30pm. The general members of the Association will be cooking ethnic Filipino dishes and the entertainment will follow suit. Admission is by donation with ALL proceeds to be donated to those affected by Super Typhoon YOLANDA. There will also be a silent auction and 50/50 raffle. 
  • Mark Wunsch Talks at the Quadra Island Community Centre. Islander, photographer, marine biologist & educator, Mark shares his breath-taking photos and stories on Quadra Island’s underwater world, 7:30pm. 
  • Big Yellow Merville Hall Christmas Craft Fair from 9:30am-1:30pm; tables available ($20) 337-8328 
  • The Trumpeter Swan Festival (hosted by Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society) will be held at K’omox First Nation Band Hall (Dyke Road, Courtenay) from 10am-4pm. Count the swans, join an origami swan workshop, hop on a bus tour, hear the speakers and check out the environmental displays. $5/person or $10/family
  • Deadline for Parade Applications if you want to be involved in Campbell River's 9th Annual Winterfest Parade on December 1st! Applications are available online at www.997theriver.ca or email winterfest@ourmail.com, this year's theme is "Snowmen". This year's Winterfest Parade will feature over 30 entries from community-minded businesses and local organizations. Thank you to all the Winterfest Parade sponsors and participants for making Campbell River a great place to live. See you at the 9th Annual Winterfest Parade on December 1st starting at 11am.


Sunday, November 24th  

  • Annual CR Toy & Craft Show at the Sportsplex 10am-4pm. 
  • Join Rebecca Wenham (cello) and Sarah Hagen (piano) for a Sunday afternoon recital with Brahms and Beethoven. 2pm at the Trinity Presbyterian Church (145 Simms road). Tickets available at the door: $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, $10 for students. For more info contact info@sarahhagen.com
  • Freeman & Hill will be performing at the Black Creek Community Centre, 2pm-4pm, with no cover charge! Everyone welcome to attend this free, folk concert. Please feel at liberty to bring a thermos, water or other beverage for the break.
