Monday, January 27th
  
  • Celebrate Family Literacy at the Library(250-287- with stories, games and puzzles:

10:30am – 11pm Age 3 and under: Story time with Justin
12:30pm-2pm Ages 3-6: Story time with Justin and games & puzzles
3pm-5pm Grades K-5: Snacks, Books, Games and Puzzles to give away!
6pm-7:30pm Grades 6-10: Anime/Manga new releases.  

  • Missoula Children’s Theatre is holding auditions for “Blackbeard the Pirate” at Penfield Elementary School Gym, 3:30pm. No advance preparation is necessary; audition is 2 hours and some members of the cast will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following.   •  Join Paul Kershaw (UBC Policy Professor) at the Royal Coachman (Carriage Room) to talk about the growing squeeze on time, income and services facing Canadians. Appys at 6pm, Speaker at 6:30pm.   • The Museum’s new temporary exhibit, ‘Animals Among Us’, continues till the end of March. For further inquiries please call 250-287-3103.

Tuesday, January 28th  

  • International Cooking Class at Robron Centre, room A114, every Tuesday from 6pm-8pm (& January 28th). Each class is $35 or the series of four classes for $100. All registration fees are donated to the International Women’s Group in support of their activities, day trips and guest speakers.   • Open Studio season begins at the Art Gallery with a new, live model to paint, sketch or sculpt from every week; runs Tuesdays from 6:30pm-9pm until March 11th. The drop-in fee is $12.50 (GST included) or you can pre-register for all nine sessions at the reduced rate of $95 (plus GST). Call 250-287-2261 to register. 
  • CR Festival of Film presents “Siddharth” at the Tidemark Theatre, 7pm. Director Richie Mehta follows his award-winning debut feature ‘Amal’ with this powerful and heart-rending tale about a poor Delhi street merchant desperately searching for his missing young son.  Wednesday, January 29th 

  • Matt Anderson in concert at the Tidemark Theatre, 7:30pm. Matt’s narrative-driven writing cuts through the soul, blending blues and folk, encompassed in total honesty. He takes listeners on a ride with his diverse musical styles, skilled guitar work and over-the-top showmanship. Matt’s intimate, high-energy performances have captivated audiences across the world, from Canada, to the US, to Australia and the UK, from small clubs to festivals.   • Mythbusters: Culture Kitchen with the Immigrant Welcome Centre. Take a bite out of cultural cuisine with a cooking demo and updates on local demographics and immigration trends. 5:30-8pm at 740 Robron Road, room A114. Seating is limited; contact Vienna Yeung at 250-830-0171 for more information. Cash donations are gladly accepted for the CR food bank.

Friday, January 31st   

  •  In addition to the Batman screening event on February 4th, the CRCIC and community partners have organized a Local Superhero contest. Visit “Local Superhero Contest” on Facebook for updates. To enter, residents of all ages are encouraged to share who their local superhero is using one of the following options:

1.       Submitting a photo and short story (50 words or less)
2.       Creating a comic strip or drawing with explanations
3.       Filming a 30 second video clip
          Entries are to be sent to contest@rivercorp.ca by noon on Friday, January 31st.

Saturday, February 1st    

  •  Lego Day at the Museum, 1-2:30pm, led by ‘Lego Master’ Alex Witcombe. Kids are encouraged to put their creative brains to good use – new this year we have a monthly prize at each Lego Day event! Parents are still welcome to co-create alongside the kids; however, they are not eligible for the prize (sorry!). $5 to register (parents are free!) – 250-287-3103. 
  • “Garage Sale for Anabelle” fundraiser at Ecole Mer-et-montagne (1102 S. Alder St.) Lots of items to choose from: 9am-2pm. If you would like to donate items, please drop them off at Ecole M. between Monday and Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm (no electronics, furniture, or infant car seats, please) 
  • 26th Annual Cystic Fibrosis Bowl for Breath is back at the CR Bowling Centre this weekend. Largely supported by students, adults are encouraged to register to bowl on Saturday evening. Bring your staff or friends and enter a team, either by collecting pledges or making a minimum donation of $20 per team member. Participants are eligible for all kinds of prizes, but special recognition will be given for outstanding fund-raising efforts. Call 250-923-4992 for more info! 
  • Tickets for Missoula Children’s Theatre presentation of “Blackbeard the Pirate” are available from Penfield Elementary or at the door. Shows at 3pm and 7pm at Timberline Secondary School Theatre. Contact Steve Koebel for more info: 250-923-4251

Sunday, February 2nd   

  • Watch the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos face off on the Big screen! The Tidemark Theatre will be opening at 3pm ($5+tax entry) to show the Super Bowl XLVIII on a 24”x14” screen! Kick-off at 3:30pm, this is a family-friendly environment. Partial proceeds to benefit CR Eagles Football. 
  • Check out the Front Runners Island Race Series - Everything from 5K to Half-Marathon. Register online for the series or individual races: www.vira.bc.ca. The series takes place between January 12th and April 13th with a 15K race at 11am, April 6th in Merville. All ages and speeds welcome!
