Discovery Passages Events February 17th to 23rd




Monday, February 17th     

  • Toonie Swim from 1-3pm at Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex (250-287-9234). 
  • Pro-G day, Girls Only, at the Sportsplex (grades 3-5) from 12pm-3pm. Try yoga, Africa grooves, zumbatomic, wallyball, racquetball, gym sports, crazy games, crafts and lots more! $7 drop-in fee includes drinks and snacks (250-923-7911). 
  • Create charming keepsakes with art teacher Sharon Sanford at the Community Centre; take home a nature and animal silhouette on a wood round plus a painted wooden key chain. $18 includes all supplies, K-Grade 2 from 9am-12pm and Grades 3-6 from 12:30-3pm. 
  • On the Mark Improv free workshop and registration, 6:30-8:30 at the Tidemark 
  • Environmental/Social Justice Film series continues with “Revolution” at Timberline Theatre, 6pm-7:15pm. Free event, donations accepted.

Tuesday, February 18th    

  • Open Studio season at the Art Gallery with a new, live model to paint, sketch or sculpt from every week; runs Tuesdays from 6:30pm-9pm until March 11th. The drop-in fee is $12.50 (GST included). Call 250-287-2261 to register.


Wednesday, February 19th   

  • Story Time at the Library! A lively half-hour of books, rhymes and songs about adventure, friendship and fantastic things! Register at the library or just drop-in! 250-287-3655.


Friday, February 21st   

  • Cosmic Rock ‘n’ Glow Swim at Strathcona Gardens from 8-9:30pm. An evening of games, challenges and fun. Fee includes a glow item, snacks and drinks. Ages 11-17, $5; 250-287-9234. 
  • Weekend Intensive 12 hour workshop with former Fraggle Rocker, Tim Gosley. Make a simple muppet-style puppet and learn lip-sync manipulation. Saturday, February 22nd  

  • CR Fish & Wildlife Association’s Annual Awards and Wild Game Banquet at Thunderbird Hall. Doors open at 5:30, dinner at 6:30, awards at 8:45 and dancing from 9pm-12am. Tickets available from Tyee Marine, River Sportsman, Granlund Firearms or CRFW Executive, $30; with live band (The Typsy Gypsies), silent auction, elk horn draw, archery display and much more!  
  • Bald Eagle Festival & Fundraiser at the Maritime Heritage Centre, 10am-4pm, fun for the whole family! “Next Generation” theme with face painting, door prizes, raptor demonstrations, Kid’s Zone activities, Photo Contest and more! Visit www.wingtips.org for more info; $5/adult or $10/family. 
  • Super Saturday at the Art Gallery: Family Tree Pictures. Make a 3D family tree using straws, paint, collage letters and more. Free admission, 1pm-3pm. 250-287-2261 
  • Giant Indoor Garage Sale at the Community Centre from 10am-2pm. Come shop in comfort! Free entry – proceeds from table rentals support 50+ Active Living Programs; 250-286-1161. 
  • Slopstacle Fun at Strathcona Gardens Pool from 2pm-4pm. Slippery, sloppy fun for all ages! 
  • A Hotsy Totsy 1920s Cabaret with Sweet Tease Burlesque, Lisa’s Lounge Lizard and friends! Live music, songs & dance, hoops, fans, bells and more! Vintage-style dress encouraged. Proceeds to benefit the Willow Point Lions “New Roof Fund” -  8:30pm at the Willow Point Hall; $15. 
  • Freeman & Hill return to Salmon Point Restaurant, 2pm, to perform folk songs from lesser known artists. Reservations are recommended for this free concert: 250-923-7272 (19+) 
  • Teen book club at the Campbell River Library, 1:30-3pm; come chat about books – drop-ins are welcome, it’s easy to join in because we choose genres for each meet instead of specific books. 
  • Coldest Night of the Year Fundraiser, raising funds for the hungry, homeless and hurting in 65 communities across Canada. 2k, 5k & 10k walks provide opportunity to experience a hint of the challenges faced by homelessness, while raising funds for local charity. Register free at www.coldestnightoftheyear.org; Ceremonies at 5pm, walk begins at 5:15pm. 
  • Top 40 Dance Party at Strathcona Gardens from 6pm-9pm for ages 6-12. Includes snacks/pizza, dance contests, ice activities, funky tunes, karaoke fun and more! 250-287-9234 


Sunday, February 23rd

  • Merlin’s Sun Productions present Tim Gosley and his show, “The Ugly Duckling”, at the Quadra Island Community Centre, 3pm.
